Ranjit Singh was coronated as the king at Lahore, on 12th April 1801. It was the occasion of Baisakhi. He was coronated by Baba Sahib Singh Bedi, who was the direct descendent of Guru Nanak. Ranjit Singh had named his government as Sarkar-E-Khalsa. He issued coins as a homage to Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh. He declared himself as the 'Maharaja of Punjab' and was proclaimed the king of Punjab region and not just the Sikhs.
