Dholavira was discovered by JP Joshi in 1967-68 and is the fifth largest Harappan site. Amri was discovered much earlier by NG Majumdar in 1929. Alamgirpur, the easternmost major Harappan site, was excavated in 1958-1959 by the Archaeological Survey of India.
