Trees are responsible for taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide during the day time. In the absence of forests, the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere will reduce and amount of carbon dioxide which is a geeenhouse gas will increase. The carbon dioxide that accumulates in the atmosphere insulates the surface of the Earth. It holds the heat. This increases the Earth's surface average temperature, heats the oceans and melts polar ice. More carbon dioxide will contribute to global warming.
