When a molecule is bisected into two equal halves by an imaginary plane then the molecule is said to possess plane of symmetry.
In the given molecule (a), (b) and (d) have a plane of symmetry because they have a imaginary plane shown as a dotted line in the below figure which bisects them into two equal halves.
Molecules possess plane of symmetry:
In compound (c), the imaginary plane does not give equal halves because in this compound one methyl group comes out of the plane and one goes backside of plane.
