Which of the following muscles get exhausted faster?
Skeletal muscles
Skeletal muscles get exhausted after a prolonged strenuous exercise. Energy is utilised faster to perform the exercise. Oxygen and glucose are used up to generate energy for the muscle cells. Due to faster utilisation, oxygen availability reduces so that the cell cannot carry out aerobic respiration and hence, turns to anaerobic mode of respiration. This leads to accumulation of lactic acid causing muscular cramps. Cardiac muscles which are present in the heart have a continuous supply of oxygen, which allows it to perform aerobic respiration. So, they never get exhausted and help in continuous heart function.
