Terephthalic acid is the organic compound with formula C6H4(COOH)2. p-Ethyltoluene is the compound which gives terepthalic acid on oxidation with KMnO4 followed by HCl. Both the alkyl (CH3 and CH2CH3) groups of compound are replaced by COOH group.
