Which of the following options gives the correct order of the 4 layers surrounding the kidney?
Paranephric fat, Gerota's fascia, Perinephric fat, Renal capsule.
The first layer covering the kidney is called paranephric fat. Moving deeper, we find a fibrous capsule, called the renal fascia also known as Gerota's fascia. If we peel this fascia away we find another layer of fat called perinephric fat. Further down we see another tough fibrous tissue called the renal capsule. This surrounds the kidney and protects it from damage.
