Which of the following refers to an abnormally low count of WBCs in our blood?
Leukopenia
Leukopenia is an abnormal reduction of circulating white blood cells in the blood. This could be the result of various reasons such as an exposure to certain chemicals or toxins, cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy and certain drugs. This results in an increased risk of infection, as there are not enough WBCs to fight germs. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer in which a type of WBCs called lymphocytes change in structure, and then grow and spread around uncontrollably. Leukaemia is another type of blood cancer resulting from an overproduction of white blood cells in the body. Anaemia refers to a condition characterised by a low number of red blood cells in the body.
