Question

Which of the following statement is not correct for a Polar protic solvent?
  1. Solvents which readily donate H+
  2. Methanol and water  are polar protic solvent
  3. H-bonding is present in polar protic solvent
  4. Solvents which do not readily donate H+

Solution

The correct option is D Solvents which do not readily donate H+
Solvents which contain H-atoms bonded to a higher electronegative atom and readily donate H+ are known as polar protic solvent.
For example : CH3OH,H2O,CH3COOH etc.

Solvents which do not readily donateH+ are known as polar aprotic solvent. hydrogen bonding is not present in polar aprotic solvent.
For example : DMSO, Acetone, Diethylether, Acetonitrile etc.
