Cellular barriers provide non-specific defence and this type of immunity is called innate immunity. The cells involved in this kind of barrier are : leucocytes like PMNL (Polymorphonuclear leukocytes), monocytes and natural killer cells.These are phagocytic in nature and they do not produce interferons.

Interferons are cytokine barriers produced by virus infected cells at the time of infection. For example, in case a cell in our body experiences a virus invasion, it automatically secretes proteins called interferons which forms a coating around the infected cell and prevents the cells around it from further infections.
