Earth originated about 4.5 billion years ago.

The conditions of the primitive earth are as follows:

a. The primitive atmosphere on earth contained gases like ammonia, methane, and water vapour.

b. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun broke water into oxygen and hydrogen.

c. Hydrogen gas being lighter, escaped.

d. The oxygen released quickly reacted with methane and ammonia forming water, carbon dioxide and other gases.
