Growth is a result of various metabolic processes happening inside a body or a cell that occur at the expense of energy. In plants, the growth is indefinite i.e., plants keep on growing. An example of growth is the increase in the length of a tree.

Swelling of a piece of wood is not considered as growth in plants as it may increase the volume of wood but it is not accompanied by metabolic processes.
