Salmonella typhi is a pathogenic bacterium that causes typhoid fever in human beings. Salmonella typhi generally enter the human body through contaminated food and water. It multiplies inside the intestine and then migrate to other organs through blood. Sustained high fever (39° to 40°C), weakness, stomach pain, constipation, headache and loss of appetite are some of the common symptoms of this disease. Intestinal perforation and death may occur in severe cases. The patient suffering from typhoid is required to be treated with antibiotics as it is a bacterial disease and antibiotics works against the bacterial disease. Widal test is used for diagnosis of typhoid fever.

DPT vaccine is for diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.
