Proteases or proteinases are enzymes that act upon complex proteins and break them into peptones or proteoses (partially digested proteins) and eventually dipeptides. If dipeptides are further treated with proteases like dipeptidases then it will yield amino acids. Amino acids are the basic units of protein.
