Question

Which of the following will generate the maximum amount of pressure? Systole or diastole?

Solution

Systole:

It is the period, which begins when the heart is filled maximally with blood and then ejected subsequently from the ventricle to the aorta as a result of which the closing of the aortic valve takes place.

Diastole:

It is the phase of the heartbeat when the muscles of the heart relax and permits the chambers to fill with blood.

  1. Systole is the contraction of the heart muscles, while the diastole is the relaxation of the heart muscles, thus, the systole produces higher pressure in comparison to the diastole.
  2. The left ventricle of the heart pumps blood much faster to the parts of the body than the right ventricle.
  3. Thus, the systole of the left ventricle produces the maximum amount of pressure.
