Promoter is a cis acting site present physically continuous with transcription unit and provides binding site for RNA polymerase enzyme. Promoters of RNA polymerase II have three conserved sequences which are present between 25 bp to 100 bp upstream the start site. TATA box is one of those 7 bp long consensus sequence and is also called as Hogness box. TATA box is located 20 bp upstream the start site and have a consensus sequence as “TATAA/TAA/T”. Option A is correct. BATA and DATA boxes are not the promoters. Correct answer is option A.
