Question

Which overlapping is strongest?

Open in App
Solution

Meaning of Overlapping:

An orbital overlap is the concentration of orbitals on neighboring atoms in the same regions of space in chemical bonding. The bond formation can be caused by orbital overlap.

Types of Overlapping:

Orbitals of the types sigma and pi intersect. The overlap of two orbitals, one on each atom, forms both bonds. The internuclear axis, also known as the orbital axis, establishes bonds when orbitals intersect between the nuclei of two atoms.

The strongest Overlapping:

The connection formed is the strongest because the electron density increases around the axis during the axial overlap of p-p Orbitals. As a result, the strongest link is formed when the p-p Orbitals overlap.
