Understorey forest:

  1. A tree forest is mainly formed of two distinct layers- overstory and understory.
  2. The lower layer of the forest formed due to different types of crowns in the forest is known as the understory. The constituents of the understorey are herbs and shrubs.
  3. The plants which are usually short and have green, tender stems are known as herbs. It is the lowest layer of understorey vegetation.
  4. The medium-sized plants which bear branches near the base are known as shrubs.
