Solution
The correct option is A As the two H atoms approach each other, they will experience some attractive force. As the two hydrogen atoms keeps on coming closer, the attractive force increases and finally a point comes where the potential energy between the two atoms will be lowest. In this state bond formation takes place. So basically in this state both the electrons of the two hydrogen atoms experience attractive force from both the two nuclei. When the distance between the atoms is decreased further, repulsion forces between electrons and the repulsive forces between the nuclei starts increasing and correspondingly potential energy value also increases as shown in option (a).
