Principle involved in the separation of mixture:

• Iron pins made of iron is a magnetic substance i.e.; they are attracted towards magnet whereas sand is a non-magnetic substance.
• On bringing a magnet close to the mixture of iron pins and sand, iron pins will be attracted towards the magnet and will cling to it while sand will be left behind.
