Question

Which type of cells are more efficient-multicellular or unicellular?

Open in App
Solution

Multicellular organisms are more efficient than unicellular organisms. These are some of the reasons why:
1 Multicellular organisms have a division of labor that enables them to do different work.
on the other hand, Unicellular organisms execute all the work required for survival in a single cell.
2. In multicellular organisms different cells have different functions while in unicellular organisms single cell does all the work.
3. In multicellular organisms the lifespan of cells is longer due to reducing stress in terms of the function executed per cell while in unicellular organisms the lifespan of cells is short due to the stress the single cells go through.
4. Multicellular organisms do not reproduce through cell division while unicellular organisms reproduce through the division of cells.
5. Multicellular organisms have a higher chance of survival due to the division of functions to various cells and advanced reproduction process while unicellular face the risk of extinction due to parent cell loss caused by cell division
