While doing numericals of this chapter in which cases do we take value of "R"(proportionality constant) as 8.314 and 0.083???
Please explain with an example....

When you're dealing in energy, i.e. where formulae like Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, etc. are used; take R = 8.314 J/mol.K When using in formulae relating to pressure, volume etc, use R = 0.083 litre.atm/mol.K See the unit, and you'll figure out.
