While turning taper using turning attachment, the setting was done for 4, but the tool is set 2.5 mm below the centre. If the workpiece diameter at the small end is 35 mm. Possible error in taper angle will be _______min.

Tool is set below the centre OE = h = 2.5 mm

First find the radius of big end,


OC2=OE2+CE2
=OE2+OB2
=OE2+(AB+OA)2

=OE2+(AB+(OD2AD2))2

=h2+(AB+r2h2)2

AB = CD

Taper angle, tanα=Rrl=ABl
AB=l tanα

OC2=h2+(l tanα+r2h2)2

=(2.5)2(90 tan4+(17.5)2(2.5)2)2

OC = 23.7458 mm

Produced taper angle is,
α=tan1[23.745817.590]=3.96989

Error in taper angle =43.96989=0.03011

= 1.81 (min)
