Weavers often belonged to communities that specialised in weaving. The tanti weavers of Bengal, sale and kaikollar and devangs of south India, the julahas or momin weavers of north India are some of the communities famous for weaving. Handloom weaving and the occupations associated with it provided the livelihood for millions of Indians. Some of the weaving centres in India are Dacca in Bengal, Coromandel coast stretching from Madras to northern Andhra Pradesh Gujarat, Jaipur, etc.
