Rhizobium:

  1. Rhizobium are the bacteria associated with the formation of root nodules in plants. These bacteria are found living in symbiosis with legumes.

Discovered by:

  1. Martinus Willem Beijerinck discovered Rhizobium.
  2. Dutch microbiologist and botanist Martinus Willem Beijerinck explored this mechanism and discovered the presence of microbes in root nodules.
  3. Further, he went on to demonstrate that these microbes were nothing but bacteria, named rhizobia.
