Question

Why 12 gram of carbon is 1 mole? Why not 1 gram of carbon?

Open in App
Solution

1 mole of carbon. Exactly 12 grams of pure carbon-12 powder is known as one mole. The number of atoms of carbon-12 present in this one mole sample is 6.022 136 7 x 1023. This number is known as Avogadro's number.only one mole of Carbon contains Avogadro's number of carbon atom. And the weight of 1 mole is only 12g. Which is the atomic weight of carbon. (only one mole of carbon or atomic weight of 12g carbon only contains Avogadro's number of mole). This is the convention between mole, atomic weight and Avogadro's number, which can not be changed.
