Question

Why antibiotics do not work against viral infection?

Open in App
Solution

Antibiotics: These are the inhibitory chemicals produced by the microorganisms to inhibit or kill the other microorganisms, especially bacteria.

These antibiotics do not work against viral infections because:

  1. Viruses possess only nuclei and proteins and depend on the host machinery for all their survival and replication.
  2. Since they use host machinery for their growth and replication, it is difficult to target them, without harming the host tissue.
