The antibiotics are designed only to treat bacterial infections. They cannot treat any viral infection. Antibiotics kill the bacteria or retard their growth by affecting the normal functioning of the body.The cold and flu are viral diseases which are caused by viruses. Hence, cannot be treated with antibiotics.
