Question

Why are metals solid and non-metals liquid or gases?

Open in App
Solution

in metals the inter atomic forces are extremely strong due to delocalised electrons and stable positive ions, which is absent in non metals.
Therefore, metals have high melting points and exists as solids at room temperature.
Non-metals have low density and lower melting and boiling points and therefore are liquids or gases at room temperature.
