Why are protein digesting Enzymes in the stomach released as inactive enzymes or zymogens?

Open in App
Solution

So, it is released in inactiveform, which goes to the target organ and then is activated by different means. The pancreas secretes zymogens partly to stop the enzymes from digest proteins in the cells in which they are synthesized. Enzymes like pepsin are shaped in the form of pepsinogen, an inactive zymogen.
