Open in App
Solution

There are a few reasons why enzymes are stored in an inactive state in the stomach cells. First, proteins can degrade with time. Second, some of the enzymes require an acidic environment to be effective. Lastly, and the MOST important reason is the simple idea that the enzymes would begin to digest the very cells they were stored in if they didn't remain inactive prior to excretion.
