Why are some salts called hydrated salts?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Hydrated salts are the salts that are loosely attached to a certain number of water molecules.
  2. The water of crystallization is when the water is found in the crystalline framework of a salt or metal complex, which is not directly bonded to the metal cation.
  3. Some salts are called hydrated salts because they contain water of crystallization.

For example;

Washing soda (Na2CO3·10H2O), Calcium Chloride hexahydrated (CaCl2·6H2O) , etc.
