Question

Why are Lithium salts mostly hydrated?

Open in App
Solution

Lithium:

  1. Lithium is a chemical element and is represented by the symbol Li.
  2. It has an atomic number of 3.

Hydrated:

  1. Lithium is known to have the smallest size of all alkali metals.
  2. This characteristic explains why the Li+ ion can polarise water molecules very easily than other alkali metals.
  3. As a result, water molecules are known to form crystallization water when they come into contact with Lithium salts.

Hence, Lithium salts are mostly hydrated.
