Why are the protozoan placed in kingdom Protista and not in kingdom Animalia?

Open in App
Solution

Protozoans are unicellular, eukaryotic organisms having a heterotrophic mode of nutrition. They are considered as the relatives of animals because of their motile nature and heterotrophic mode of nutrition. The kingdom Animalia includes all multicellular, eukaryotic, heterotrophic organisms whereas, the kingdom Protista includes all unicellular, eukaryotic and heterotrophic organisms. Hence, Protozoans are placed under the kingdom Protista instead of the kingdom Animalia.
