Why chlorophyll a is essential pigment for plant?Why not chlorophyll b,c,d?

Chlorophyll a is the major pigment in plants. It forms the reaction centre in Photosystem I and II and is involved in majority of light absorption. That is why, it is essential in plants. The other pigments are accessory pigments which transfer the absorbed energy to the chlorophyll a.
