Question

Why covalent bonds are not stronger than Ionic bonds?

Open in App
Solution

Covalent Bond:

  • A single covalent bond is formed when two atoms share the same electron pair.
  • The covalent bond is established when two elements share electrons in order to become stable and form a molecule of a compound.

Ionic Bond:

  • The ionic bond is the bond established as a result of the electrostatic attraction between the positive and negative ions.
  • Due to the complete transfer of electrons, ionic bonds are stronger than any other bonding.
  • They have a high melting and boiling point, indicating a strong ionic connection.

Hence, the covalent bond is weaker than the ionic bond.
