Cytokinins are basic hormones that stimulate cell division.
The first cytokinin was discovered by Miller and Skoog. Uses of Cytokinins: 1. Tissue culture: Cytokinins are essentially used during tissue culture as, besides cell division, they also trigger differentiation. 2. Shelf life: If cytokinins are applied to harvested fruits and vegetables they remain fresh for a longer duration of time as they stop the degradative reactions. This increases the shelf life of these natural products.
