Solution
Mendel choose pea plant for his experiments, because, the plants were annuals having a short life cycle. They exhibited a variety of characters with contrasting traits. The flowers naturally underwent self pollination but could be easily cross pollinated because of the large size of the flower. They produced seeds in large quantities. So, a large number of offsprings could be studied at the same time.
