There are several reasons/factors for the rising tribal resistance against the British raj. Some of them are:

• Encroachments of ancestral lands from by foreigners.
• Adivasis were forced to pay fines to the Forest Department.
• Ill-treatment of Adivasi women and rampant bribery
• Begar - System of forced labour in which adivasis were compelled to perform unpaid work for the government.

In protest, the adivasis would often burnt down police stations, posts of the Forest Department and houses of the moneylenders. Sometimes, they would even set fire to jungles.
