Question

Why do gases exert pressure ?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Gas is a state of matter consisting of particles that have neither a definite volume nor a definite shape.
  2. Pressure is defined as a measure of the force applied over a unit area.
  3. We know that particles in gas are loosely packed so they keep on moving randomly. The pressure exerted by the gas is because of the fast moving particles of the gas which collides with each other. Thus, gas exerts pressure on the walls of container.
