Question

Why gases exert same pressure in all the direction?

Open in App
Solution

  • According to the kinetic theory of gases, all the molecules are moving randomly and very fastly in all directions.
  • During their random motion they colloid with each other and also with the wall of the container and as they colloid with the wall of the container they also transfer the impulses and that becomes the pressure that anyone can feel on the wall of the container from outside.
  • Now, as it is clear the molecules are moving and due to collision with the wall the pressure can be felt on the wall of the container, we can understand the fact that the molecule will move in all the directions not only in a particular direction that is why the pressure is equal in all the directions.
