Question

Why do insect-pollinated flowers produce nectar?

Open in App
Solution

Insect pollinated flowers:

  1. These are those flowers in which pollen is transferred from one flower to another flower through insects.
  2. Insect-pollinated flowers produce nectar in order to attract pollinators, such as fruit-eating bats, hummingbirds, sunbirds, and insects.
  3. Nectaries are usually located at the base of the flower stamens, which draw animal visitors into contact with the pollen to be transferred.
  4. When these agents sit on the next flower anther gets stuck on the stigma of those flowers and pollination occurs.
  5. Examples of insect-pollinated plants are Rose and Marigold.
