Question

Why do liquids take the shape of the containing vessel?

Open in App
Solution

  • In liquid, the constituent molecules are not very strongly held together.
  • The inter-molecular spaces between the molecules of the liquid are more as compared to solid.
  • Thus, the molecules are in a position to interchange their places.
  • It is an account of this reason that liquids do not have a definite shape but take the shape of the containing vessel.
