Why do physicians prescribe diuretic drugs to patients with high blood pressure?
Diuretic drugs increase urine flow and decrease the blood volume.
Diuretics work as binding drug to the Cl- binding site of the carrier protein and prevents cycling of the protein. Cycling is basically the rotation of the protein by which it drops off molecules picked up from the filtrate, into the tubular cells. This prevents sodium reabsorption and leads to diuresis or increased volume of urine.
