Solution
Water is absorbed by the plants through the xylem.
Plants need water as the nutrients responsible for their growth are water soluble.
They require water for important processes like seed germination.
Plants absorb water by roots from the surrounding soil through various processes which in turn also helps in absorption of mineral nutrition.
Water is also important as to compensate for what is lost due to transpiration.
It is also used for synthesizing food i.e. photosynthesis process.
