Why do restriction enzymes fail to recognize dna sequence that is modified by addition of methyl group?

Solution

Methyl group acts as an inhibitor for the restriction enzyme EcoRI as it gets attached at the ori site of the enzyme in DNA. It modifies the recognition site of the DNA that restriction enzyme does not recogmise.
