Process of asexual reproduction:

During asexual reproduction, the parent cell undergoes mitotic division involving karyokinesis (division of the nucleus) and cytokinesis (division of the cytoplasm).

Progeny are called clones:

The offspring formed by asexual method of reproduction are therfore referred to as clones because of the following reasons:-

● Genetic composition of the offspring is identical to the parent.

● The progeny are morphologically identical to the parent.
