Molecules of matter are constantly move from one place to another in zigzag motion rather than moving along a fixed defined path.
Due to this zigzag motion of molecules of air, smell of hot food spread in the entire room.
This process is called diffusion.
Hence, due to diffusion we smell the hot food across the room.
