Question

Why does cocoon look like a ball?

Open in App
Solution

The silkworm keeps making the cocoon from the liquid sticky protein secreted from its salivary glands. While making its cocoon, the silkworm will twist it back and forth which gives the cocoon a continuous shape. Moreover, the liquid hardens when it comes in contact with air and due to surface tension, it tends to become circular.
