Question 32
Why does the skin of your finger shrink when you wash clothes for a long time?
Soap solution is a hypertonic solution to our cells and therefore when we use our hands for washing clothes for a long time the water from the cells of our hands diffuses out of the cells by a process of osmosis. When the cell shrinks, it has a cumulative effect on the entire range of our epidermal cells of the fingers and as a result, the skin on our fingers also shrinks.
